COVID-19 Cases Surge by 30% Last Week, Exceeding 800 Cases with 40 New Deaths, 90% Elderly

According to the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control, there was a significant increase in COVID-19 cases last week, reaching 817 new confirmed cases with complications, a 30% increase from the previous week. Among the new cases, 90% of the deaths were elderly individuals aged 65 and above. The CDC emphasized the importance of vaccination to reduce severe cases and fatalities, with around 280.5 million doses administered to date. The agency warned that the current outbreak is expected to continue rising, especially with the dominant strains being closely monitored for trends.
