The COVID-19 pandemic has entered a peak period with an increased number of confirmed cases in children and the rising prevalence of the more contagious KP.2 variant in the US. However, Dr. Huang Yucheng, Chairman of the Taiwan Society of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and attending physician at Chang Gung Children's Infectious Diseases Department in Linkou, reassures the public that while the virus continues to mutate, severe cases are decreasing. He highlights 3 high-risk groups (non-vaccinated individuals, those not previously infected, and those with weakened immune systems) but states that the general population can maintain normal activities with proper prevention measures without excessive worry.
