As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to surge, with record-high deaths in a single week reaching 64 cases, the Deputy Director-General of the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control, Chang Shu-hui, predicts the peak will be reached in mid-July. Pediatric emergency physician Wu Chang-teng warns that individuals over 65, with cancer, or weakened immune systems should be particularly cautious. He explains that increased social interactions have led to easier virus transmission. The Omicron strain remains predominant, with the KP.2 variant gaining attention for its enhanced transmissibility and immune evasion capabilities.
