A surge in COVID-19 cases in Taiwan with 328 new local cases last week indicating the onset of an epidemic, prompting the distribution of 3 million rapid tests in about 2,000 clinics across the country starting from July. Deputy Minister of Health Lin Chin-yi, also a physician, advised high-risk groups to discuss vaccination with healthcare providers, stressing the virus's ongoing mutations and the importance of vaccination. The Ministry of Health plans to provide the rapid tests for free through medical institutions to facilitate early detection and control of the virus, emphasizing the need for public vigilance and hygiene practices.
