As Taiwan faces its sixth wave of COVID-19, with cases expected to peak in mid-July and single-week diagnoses possibly surpassing 100,000, a family medicine specialist warns of the possibility of complications and even death for high-risk individuals. The doctor emphasizes the importance of prompt vaccination and seeking medical attention for those at risk. Specific groups at higher risk include individuals above 65, pregnant women, postpartum women within six weeks, cancer patients, diabetics, chronic kidney disease patients, chronic lung disease patients, cardiovascular disease patients, mental illness patients, and dementia patients, who can receive oral antiviral treatment within five days of diagnosis after assessment by a physician.
