CPBL / Yueh Cheng-hua's Home Run Ball Eaten by Outfield Seat, Hirabayashi Shigekazu: Normally Wouldn't Choose White

Reported about 1 year ago

Chinatrust Brothers won 2-1 against the Uni-President Lions on July 7, 2024, where Yueh Cheng-hua's key 2-run homer hit a white seat in the outfield at the Taipei Dome, creating a scenario of the seat 'eating the ball.' Reflecting on this, Brothers' head coach Hirabayashi Shigekazu mentioned that the color of the outfield indeed can cause confusion. Yueh, who smacked the 2-run homer, initially thought it was a home run but saw the ball return to third base, so he didn't run further until confirmed by the umpire. Shigekazu praised Yueh's baserunning judgment, and acknowledged that in general, white seats wouldn't be chosen due to color influence. Besides this homer controversy, a timer malfunction during pitcher Kolin Ryon Guh's play also occurred, prompting Shigekazu to address the issue, emphasizing the importance of fair play in every aspect of the game.
