Taiwan's Supreme Prosecutors Office initiated the first wave of the 'Jingping Project' from June 25 to July 5, conducting a strong sweep of corruption cases in the green energy sector in Taipei, New Taipei, Yunlin, and Chiayi. As a result, one senior legislator was detained, along with a former township chief, township government official, and a middleman. Cash exceeding NT$5 million, a BMW X6, a LEXUS RX200 SUV, luxury bags, watches, and other ill-gotten gains were seized. Notably, Yunlin County Council speaker Huang Kai was implicated for allegedly taking bribes from solar energy companies and pressuring officials to expedite permits. The crackdown on green energy corruption highlights the prosecution's determination to combat corruption in this sector.
