A British-Albanian gang member, Eugert Merizaj, sentenced to 32 years in jail for murder, was found filming TikTok videos from prison to beg for money, while wearing a pair of Dolce & Gabbana sneakers worth 550 pounds (about 22,600 New Taiwan dollars). He was suspected of using a 'contraband' cellphone to communicate with friends outside, earning money through 'Live Match' on TikTok. Merizaj's defiance and luxurious lifestyle inside prison includes boasting about owning a cellphone delivered by drone, which was hidden inside a tissue roll, and confidently replacing confiscated phones with new ones costing 2,000 pounds each. Despite being in prison for orchestrating a murder in 2019, with three members also jailed for manslaughter and three suspects still at large, authorities were only alerted to his rule-breaking after media exposure, prompting investigations and collaborations with TikTok to remove his content.
