Crimea, controlled by Russia, was hit by missile attacks on June 24th at 5:09 am, causing panic among beach visitors. The Russian Defense Ministry stated that Ukraine used US-supplied Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) to launch 5 missiles towards the port city of Sevastopol, with 4 intercepted by Russian air defense systems while the 5th missile exploded in the air, injuring at least 5 with 151 casualties. The incident led to 5 deaths, including 3 children and 2 adults, with a 9-year-old daughter of the deputy mayor of Magadan, Russia among the victims. Sevastopol is the largest city in Crimea and a popular tourist destination for Russians. The range of ATACMS missiles reaches 300 kilometers, with the US beginning to supply Ukraine earlier this year. The US Department of Defense allowed Ukrainian military to use US-supplied weapons to target any military objectives near the Russian border. Russia has been continuously bombing the major city of Kharkiv in northeast Ukraine, destroying a residential building on the 22nd and causing at least 3 deaths and injuries to dozens more.
