Amid the current standoff in cross-strait relations, Mainland Affairs Council Deputy Minister and Spokesperson Liang Wen-chieh stated that the Republic of China and the People's Republic of China are not subordinate to each other, drawing criticism from the Taiwan Affairs Office accusing the Democratic Progressive Party of promoting a 'two-state theory,' challenging the One China principle, and provoking people on both sides of the strait. The office warned that such behavior will be punished and fail. Liang's remarks came after President Lai Ching-te mentioned the non-subordination between the ROC and PRC, with Liang emphasizing that it complies with the Constitution.
