On May 13, 2024, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was attacked in the old city area of Copenhagen, sustaining minor whiplash to her neck. The suspect, a 39-year-old Polish man, was reported to be under the influence of alcohol and drugs and did not recognize his target as the Danish Prime Minister. Danish police stated that the attack was not politically motivated. Despite being charged with violence against a public official, the suspect did not plead guilty, and his detention was extended. The incident raised concerns about rising radicalism in European societies, following recent attacks on political figures in Europe.
