A fire broke out on June 24th in a battery manufacturing plant in Hwaseong City, South Korea, leading to the tragic deaths of 23 people, predominantly foreigners including 17 Chinese citizens. The initial investigation points to causes such as the flammable and difficult-to-extinguish nature of lithium batteries, which produce toxic smoke upon combustion, rendering individuals unconscious after inhaling only a few breaths. The exact cause of the fire is currently being investigated by nine government agencies. The incident also resulted in a subsequent explosion of 35,000 lithium batteries stored in the warehouse, with 8 injured and 23 dead, marking one of the worst chemical factory tragedies in South Korean history.
