December Sees Eased Core Inflation but High Costs Persist

Reported about 4 hours ago

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics reports a decrease in core inflation for December, marking the first decline since July 2024. While the Consumer Price Index aligned with expectations, core CPI, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, rose by only 0.2% from the previous month and 3.2% year-over-year. However, costs in areas such as gas, housing, food, and airfare remain elevated, indicating ongoing inflationary pressures.
