Declining High School Graduates by a Quarter in 5 Years, Private Schools Face Major Impact

Reported 8 months ago

According to the latest forecast report from the Ministry of Education, the number of primary school students for the 112th academic year is around 1.235 million, with an average annual decrease of about 29,000 over the next 16 years, expecting to drop below one million by the 118th academic year and below 800,000 by the 128th academic year. The number of high school graduates has decreased by about a quarter compared to the 107th academic year, especially affecting private schools. However, experts note the polarization in private high school admissions, with a star effect that lessens the impact on certain elite private schools while private vocational schools are facing a challenging situation and might have to rely on overseas student classes or cooperative education programs to avoid being phased out.
