The historical wartime TV drama 'Listening to the Sound of the Sea,' funded by Public Television, not only revisits the WWII era but also sets the story in Borneo, replicating the appearance of a Japanese POW camp. To portray Taiwanese characters fluent in Japanese, Wu Han-Lin, Huang Guan-Zhi, and Zhu You-Cheng traveled to Japan to practice the language diligently, even buying discounted perishables to save on costs. The plot revolves around three brothers played by them, highlighting Taiwan's national identity transformation through interactions with characters portrayed by Shi Ming-Shuai and Lien Yu-Han. The actors faced various challenges, including learning different languages and physical training to portray the wartime setting authentically.
