The defector group 'Free North Korea Movement Alliance' floated 20 large balloons towards North Korea on the evening of June 20th, containing 300,000 leaflets, USB drives, and $1 bills. The leaflets carried messages declaring love for the North Korean people and their only homeland 'Republic of Korea', while the USBs stored the Korean drama 'Winter Sonata' and songs by South Korean singer Lim Young Woong. The group continued this act despite previous strong objections from North Korea and threats of retaliatory garbage balloons. The recent mild reaction from North Korea is speculated to prevent escalating tensions during Russian President Putin's visit to Pyongyang, where a 'Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement' was signed, raising concerns on potential future actions by North Korea towards South Korea.
