The new Minister of National Defense, Chiu Li-hsiung, recently relaxed several regulations for military personnel, including a policy where they only need to report if they have matters to attend to during their leave. However, on the same day of the announcement, it was revealed that the military instructed personnel that although direct reporting during leave is not required, seniors may still call to check in, leading Democratic Progressive Party legislators to question if the military is openly defying orders. This dilemma arose as the military attempted to handle the situation following the new guidelines set by the Minister. There were concerns that some personnel might be engaged in misconduct during their leave, prompting the military to closely monitor their holiday activities.
