Reported about 1 year ago

On June 10, 2024, around 6:00 am, the Coast Guard's Third Patrol District Command Center in Shahung Radar detected a suspicious vessel about 6 nautical miles off the coast of Tamsui, Taiwan. The vessel turned out to be a mainland Chinese man who had illegally crossed from Fuzhou to Taiwan. Upon further investigation and his expressing a desire to 'surrender to the Republic of China' for freedom, the man, identified as a 60-year-old surnamed Ruan, was arrested and sent to the local inspection office. He traveled approximately 260 kilometers on a boat from Ningde Port in Fujian Province to Tamsui, where he accidentally collided with a ferry. Ruan now faces charges under the Cross-Strait Relations Act and Immigration Law.
