Deutsche Telekom has successfully won a legal fight against EU antitrust regulators to receive interest on part of a fine reimbursed after an appeal, potentially setting a positive precedent for Intel's similar 593-million-euro claim. The European Commission imposed a 31 million euro fine on Deutsche Telekom in 2014, which was reduced to 19 million euros with a 1.8 million euro interest payment ordered to be given. The Court of Justice of the European Union ruled in favor of Deutsche Telekom, stating that the Commission must pay interest on unduly imposed fines in competition cases. The ruling also affects other companies with similar claims for interest on annulled fines totaling about 800 million euros.
