During Microsoft's Build 2024 event on June 9th, Microsoft announced the launch of a feature called 'Recall' that allows users to use artificial intelligence to backtrack the content viewed on Windows 11 operating systems. This feature is initially limited to devices designed with 'Copilot+ PC,' such as those equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processors. Developers have enabled older Windows PCs with Arm architecture to use the 'Recall' feature through a Windows application named 'Amperage' on Github, making it accessible to devices using Snapdragon 8cx, Snapdragon 7c, Microsoft SQ, or Ampere processors. Users must be running Windows 11 24H2 build 26100.712 to utilize the 'Recall' feature effectively. Future expansions are anticipated with the release of new Intel and AMD processors. The 'Recall' feature resembles Microsoft's earlier Timeline function, recognizing text, images, and video content viewed by users through multimodal natural language models on devices and employing AI technology to locate the content quickly when revisited. Microsoft emphasizes that all 'Recall' data is stored solely on the user's device, without additional cloud sending for collaborative computation, assuring no privacy breach issues (though the UK government appears somewhat concerned).
