The compromised immune system of diabetic patients can impact treatment outcomes. A study published in the Journal of Endodontics revealed a higher risk of apical periodontitis for diabetic patients post-root canal treatment and potential healing complications for existing cases. While the exact mechanisms are still being researched, it is advised for diabetic patients to maintain good oral hygiene, control blood sugar levels, and undergo regular dental check-ups for early problem detection and treatment.
