On June 19, 2024, it was reported that the No. 1 reactor at the Nuclear Power Plant 3 would be retired at the end of July this year. Kuomintang legislators proposed an extension of nuclear power legislation in April, but it is rumored that the KMT committee does not want to review it in order to not help the DPP's 'Non-Nuclear Homeland' policy. Economic Affairs Minister Guo Zhixun respected the decision of the Legislative Yuan. This has caused internal disagreements within the KMT, with some members supporting the extension while others do not see the need due to statements from the Minister saying there is no power shortage.
