Doc Nonprofit Video Consortium to Bring Video Journalism to Local Newsrooms

Reported 4 months ago

The global nonprofit Video Consortium, with support from the Knight Foundation, is expanding its efforts to help local newsrooms enhance their video journalism strategies by partnering with them to train local video journalists and ensure authentic storytelling that reflects their communities. Founded nearly a decade ago by journalist and filmmaker Sky Dylan-Robbins, Video Consortium aims to democratize the industry and provide resources like workshops, mentorship programs, and job boards. Their recent Solution Storytelling Project pairs filmmakers with local nonprofits to create documentaries, benefiting both the filmmakers' careers and local communities. Amid challenges in the nonfiction and documentary filmmaking industries, Video Consortium is working to strengthen connections between filmmakers and newsrooms to address the decline in journalism resources and the need for quality video journalism.
