TrendForce's latest report revealed that TSMC continued its domination in the global wafer foundry market for Q1 this year, reaching a record high market share of 61.7%. China's leading wafer foundry SMIC entered the top three for the first time, surpassing UMC and GlobalFoundries with a market share of 5.7%. Analysts attribute TSMC's strong presence to the growing demand for advanced processes in AI and high-performance computing (HPC), while SMIC's increasing market share reflects China's ongoing advancements in chip development amid the US-China tech war. The total revenue of the top ten wafer foundries globally decreased by 4.3% to around $29.2 billion in Q1.
