As of June 14, 2024, Taipei Veterans General Hospital's Proton and Radiation Oncology Center has treated over 200 patients, with nearly 1/3 being pancreatic cancer cases, notoriously known as the 'Cancer Emperor'. While most patients often give up upon hearing a pancreatic cancer diagnosis due to late-stage detection, the center's Proton therapy has provided a lifeline for many. Through a success story of a patient named Chen, who underwent chemotherapy followed by 12 sessions of Proton therapy resulting in tumor shrinkage, the treatment proved effective in battling this challenging cancer. Specialists at the hospital shared insights on the importance of early detection and the advancements in Proton therapy, offering new hope for pancreatic cancer patients.
