Don't throw zongzi leaves into kitchen waste, Environmental Bureau says they are hard to decompose

Reported 11 months ago

During the Dragon Boat Festival, the Environmental Bureau reminds the public not to throw zongzi leaves into kitchen waste or compost bins as the long fibers are difficult to decompose and can damage machinery. Instead, they should be disposed of in regular garbage. Similar long fiber plants like sugarcane peels, pineapple tops, durian shells, coconut shells, and bamboo shoot husks should also be treated as regular waste, as they can't be easily composted. Eggshells and wormwood traditionally hung on doors during the festival are suitable for composting kitchen waste. The article also touches upon the correct disposal methods for various food scraps and the importance of proper waste management.
