As Dragon Boat Festival approaches, new revelations debunk the common belief that the festival is solely about 'saving Qu Yuan' by throwing rice dumplings into the river to prevent fish and shrimp from eating him. In fact, the festival's origins predate this tale and are linked to totem worship practices among the Wu Yue people in southern China. Additionally, the festival is not a joyous occasion but a day of solemnity and sacrifice due to its association with dangerous seasonal transitions. Lastly, the renowned poet Qu Yuan did not actually bear the surname Qu, as revealed by ancient naming conventions. Therefore, instead of wishing 'Happy Dragon Boat Festival,' it's more appropriate to say 'Have a safe and healthy Dragon Boat Festival.'
