Due to heavy rainfall, the primary embankment of Dongting Lake in Hunan, China collapsed after a failed closure, causing the breach to widen from 10 to nearly 100 meters within a short period. No casualties reported, with 5,755 affected individuals evacuated and relocated. Local authorities are assessing the best time to forcibly seal the breach. A total of 700 rescuers including armed police arrived to assist, while a temporary traffic control was enforced on all external roads of Huarong County to accommodate flood prevention efforts.
