DPP Criticizes KMT and MFP for Setting up Investigation Teams in the Case of J-TOUCH TV, Urges Self-Restraint

Reported 12 months ago

During a press conference at the Legislative Yuan, DPP Legislative Yuan caucus convener Wu Szu-yao criticized the KMT and MFP for rushing to establish investigation teams or committees during the interim period before the Constitutional Court's decision on parliament's empowerment. Wu warned that the hasty investigations could harm people and business interests, urging the parties to exercise self-restraint. KMT Legislative Yuan caucus deputy secretary-general Lin Ssu-ming stated that the decision to establish an investigation team was made at last week's caucus meeting, with the MFP expressing a similar intention. The parties will set up joint investigation teams in the committees on transportation, justice, and legal affairs to expose any misconduct related to J-TOUCH TV. The excessive investigation units created by the parties have caused controversy, with Wu pointing out the violation of Legislative Yuan rules and the intention to discredit and attack the DPP. Wu, along with DPP Legislative Yuan caucus deputy secretaries Hung Shen-han and Lin Chu-yin, emphasized the importance of safeguarding free speech and the media as pillars of Taiwan's democracy, questioning the motives behind targeting the media amid unresolved constitutional issues and warning against the potential abuse of power and erosion of public trust.
