DPP Chair and President Lai Ching-te urged responsible interactions between ruling parties on both sides, highlighting that communication should be based on goodwill and equality, not as a transaction. Contrasting this with recent undisclosed meetings between Kuomintang (KMT) legislators and Chinese officials, which were criticized as meaningless and lacking transparency, the DPP called for mainstream Taiwanese voices to be taken seriously by the other side before initiating formal or informal exchanges. The DPP's approach aims for equality, dignity, and understanding of each other's differing political perspectives, rather than being constrained by certain political agendas. Despite recent military incidents near Taiwan involving a Chinese submarine and aircraft, the DPP remains prepared for healthy exchanges, expecting mainland China to reciprocate goodwill gestures, as shown by President Lai's inauguration speech neutrality stance and welcoming gestures towards cross-strait tourism and students. The DPP also highlighted the need for vigilance amidst China's strategic gray zone actions not only targeting Taiwan but the entire first island chain.
