DPP Ethics Committee to Launch Investigation on Mayor Cheng Wen-tsang’s Corruption Case, Meeting Expected Tomorrow Evening

On July 6, 2024, the DPP Ethics Committee Chairman Chiu Chun-yen announced that they plan to hold a meeting on the evening of the 8th to address the corruption case involving mayor Cheng Wen-tsang, who was recently released on bail of 5 million NTD. In response to media reports, Cheng made a statement through Line, emphasizing his innocence and thanking everyone for their concern. DPP Chairman Lai Ching-te emphasized the importance of cracking down on illegal activities and corruption, stating that justice should be served regardless of party affiliation. The DPP Ethics Committee, comprised of neutral individuals such as scholars and lawyers, will investigate the case per the Anti-Corruption Act and take appropriate actions if the accusations are confirmed true.
