During the 2024 presidential election, DPP legislator Huang Ying-jun from Chiayi County expressed support for then Kuomintang candidate Hou Yu-ih at a campaign event. As a result, the DPP held a meeting on June 28 and unanimously passed a resolution to suspend Huang for 3 years for breaching party rules by assisting a non-party member in campaigning. While not expelled, Huang's suspension means she cannot seek DPP nomination for re-election in 2026 unless she is nominated. The DPP stressed the importance of upholding party discipline to safeguard Taiwan's democracy and freedom.
