The grand event of the Dragon Boat Festival in Longtan, the '2024 Longtan Homecoming Cultural Festival', will take place around Longtan Lake in Taoyuan from June 8 to June 10 for three consecutive days. The festival features free water fireworks shows, drone performances, concerts, markets, dragon boat races, and water lion dances. One highlight is a seven-minute water fireworks show combining drone performances, illuminating Taoyuan's night sky. The festival aims to integrate Hakka culture and traditional customs, celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival with citizens and visitors. The festival's main event is the century-old dragon boat race, a significant cultural heritage in Taoyuan and one of the twelve major Hakka festivals. Wealthy crowds gather for the races, bringing prosperity to surrounding businesses and promoting Hakka cultural traditions. In addition to the dragon boat race, the festival includes markets, concerts, and water lion dance competitions. Police preparations are made to ensure the safety of the tens of thousands of people attending the event, with 137 teams participating in the dragon boat race competition over three days with the goal of winning the '2024 Taoyuan City Mayor's Cup Dragon Boat Race' top honor.
