In Taipei, Taiwan, private Dongshan High School's junior high department faced controversy for over-admitting over 100 students, causing new students to be left without a school to attend despite already receiving uniforms, paying graduation fees, and halfway through summer homework. This situation mirrors a similar incident 12 years ago at a private school when 96 students were over-admitted, leading to transfers after the education bureau intervened. This year, with an increase in students due to the Year of the Dragon, Taipei alone saw an additional 2000 students, resulting in a need for more classes. Several schools, including Changxing Junior High School in Miaoli, had to reject students and increase classes to accommodate the overflow. Parents expressed frustration and protested against the lack of fairness in school admissions policies.
