According to a report by SET News on June 8, 2024, consuming sugary beverages is now identified as the primary cause of kidney damage surpassing high sodium intake in Taiwan. Research shows a direct correlation between the frequency and duration of consuming sugary drinks and kidney failure, with potential kidney failure as soon as 8 years if consumed daily. The younger population's increase in diabetes due to sugary drink consumption is a growing concern, leading to a higher risk of kidney failure in both younger and older individuals. Leading renal specialist, Dr. Hong Yongxiang, warns of the dangers and advises reducing sugary drink intake to prevent future kidney complications.
