In the morning of June 17, 2024, a sedan lost control and veered onto the sidewalk, almost crashing into a store. A 58-year-old man surnamed Chen from New Taipei City was driving towards Taipei City when he accidentally crossed three lanes and ended up driving in reverse onto the sidewalk, hitting a beam before stopping, narrowly avoiding crashing into an eyeglasses store. Fortunately, there were no injuries to pedestrians or vehicles, and Chen only suffered minor abrasions. He explained to the police that he lost control due to choking on water while driving. Police found no signs of drunk driving and issued a traffic ticket for driving in reverse.
