Duanwu Holiday Boosts Catering Economy, Hualien Suffers 50% Decline Post-Earthquake but Summer Itineraries Rebound

Reported 8 months ago

During the Duanwu holiday, the catering sector in Hualien saw a decline of nearly 50% post-earthquake, while summer bookings have started to pick up. Compared to last year, Taipei's catering industry grew by 10%, but Hualien and Taitung experienced declines of 47% and 33% respectively. Klook data shows that despite minimal bookings in Hualien during Duanwu, there has been a significant rise in summer reservations. It is recommended for catering businesses to utilize government subsidies and zero monthly fee schemes, introduce English-supported online reservation systems, collaborate with experience-based itineraries, and tap into various subsidies. On the tourism front, Hualien's reservations remain low post-quakes but have started rising gradually for summer, with popular bookings at locations like Far Glory Ocean Park and whale watching activities.
