Dumping oil at sea results in a $2 million fine for shipping companies.

Reported 5 months ago

Two shipping companies, Prive Overseas Marine LLC and Prive Shipping Denizcilik Ticaret, agreed to pay a $2 million fine after pleading guilty to federal charges for dumping oil in the Atlantic Ocean from the tanker PS Dream while en route to New Orleans. The companies admitted to conspiracy and obstruction of justice related to false entries in the oil record log book. Crew members were found to have discharged oil-contaminated waste into federal waters, supported by evidence from whistleblowers and videos showing the illegal dumping. The ship's master is also facing charges in a related case.
