Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte has been officially nominated by NATO to succeed Jens Stoltenberg as NATO Secretary-General. Rutte is set to assume office on October 1 after Stoltenberg's retirement. He is known for his strong support for military aid to Ukraine and resistance against Russian aggression during his tenure as the Dutch Prime Minister. Rutte's main challenges upon taking office will be the Russia-Ukraine conflict and issues involving the United States. His appointment is expected to receive unanimous approval from all 32 NATO countries and he will need to persuade European allies to increase military spending to prevent a US withdrawal from NATO.
