Scientists have confirmed that Earth's core, a solid metal ball deep inside the planet, has been moving backward due to a significant slowdown, in a discovery that stems from decades of debate. Research published in June 2024 in the journal Nature supports the hypothesis of a decades-long pattern of core deceleration. This rotation cycle of the core, which influences Earth's magnetic field and the planet's rotation speed, is estimated to follow a 70-year pattern. Scientists believe the inner core's movement could impact various Earth processes, although further research is needed to fully understand its effects.
