During hot weather, ice-cold and sweet watermelon is the perfect snack to cool down. However, consuming watermelon in a certain way could potentially lead to bacterial infection without realizing it. A case shared by a nurse from Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Linkou involved an elderly person who repeatedly used a spoon to scoop out watermelon, left it uneaten, and stored it in the fridge, leading to bacterial growth and ultimately a fatal infection of listeria bacteria. This highlights the importance of proper handling to avoid bacterial contamination, such as cutting watermelon into small pieces and storing it in a container before consumption.
