ECB's Panetta Highlights Minimal Inflation Risks from U.S. Tariffs

Reported 27 days ago

ECB policymaker Fabio Panetta stated that higher U.S. tariffs on European exports are unlikely to significantly impact inflation in the euro area. He emphasized the risk of medium-term inflation falling below 2% and pointed to energy markets, especially natural gas prices, as the primary concern. Panetta noted that the negative impact of tariffs on global economic growth would be limited for the euro area, with Germany and Italy being more affected due to their trade relations with the U.S.
