On June 27, 2024, the Investment Review Council of the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Taiwan approved four significant foreign investment cases totaling around $10.511 billion. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) will invest $5.26 billion to establish a 12-inch wafer plant in Kumamoto, Japan, and $5 billion to build the second phase of a 12-inch wafer plant in the US. These investments aim to cater to local customer demands, enhance strategic relationships, and contribute to the development of semiconductor technology. The investments in Japan and the US are part of TSMC's strategy to collaborate with local supply chain partners, recruit top talent, and strengthen Taiwan's technology reserves.
