During a legislative session, Economic Minister Guo Zhihui stated that the estimated 3% annual increase in electricity consumption is not too conservative as new chips will have better energy efficiency, and the initial electricity demand for data centers will not be as high. He emphasized that if ESCO energy-saving initiatives progress smoothly, the electricity growth from 2025 to 2028 can be met. Guo also mentioned that despite the growth in electricity demand, the development of new chips with lower energy consumption will prevent a sharp increase. The Ministry of Economic Affairs will wait for instructions from the Executive Yuan regarding the possibility of freezing electricity prices in September after the recent adjustment in April.
