In a coordinated move last Thursday, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Ministry of Economic Affairs intervened to rescue three solid recovered fuel (SRF) power plants in Taoyuan Science and Technology Industrial Park whose permits had been canceled, enabling the operators to continue establishing the plants. Amid concerns of air pollution, Taoyuan City Government criticized the entrance process as being underhanded, with Mayor Zhang Shan-zheng pledging strict scrutiny to protect public health. The local representatives also condemned the central government's involvement, labeling it as 'forcing a firebrand into the stove.' The economic ministry withdrew the city government's decision, sparking debates over the legitimacy of the entry process and environmental considerations.
