An Ecuadorian government official confirmed a nationwide power outage on the evening of June 19, leaving approximately 18 million people in darkness for several hours. The blackout paralyzed the metro system in the capital city of Quito, causing traffic disruptions. Residents expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of water supply warnings, while students were affected as night schools were suspended. Tourists in amusement parks were left stranded in mid-air attractions. The country's Public Works Minister later announced that 95% of power had been restored, blaming the outage on inadequate investment in the power system due to a drought-related energy crisis.
