Ecuador has temporarily suspended the visa waiver agreement with China, starting on July 1, due to a significant increase in irregular migration by Chinese nationals using Ecuador as a starting point to reach the United States through unconventional routes. This move effectively reinstates the visa requirement for Chinese citizens. The suspension came after authorities observed that around half of Chinese nationals entering Ecuador did not leave the country through legal channels or within the agreed-upon 90-day period. China has expressed opposition to human smuggling activities and is cooperating with Ecuador and other nations to address illegal immigration issues.
