Education Minister Yeh Ying-yao emphasized that even if Taiwan Power Company cancels the frozen electricity rates for public schools, the Ministry of Education will allocate a budget to compensate for the rate difference. The Ministry will start allocating budgets for public schools from 2025 to cover the increased electricity costs and ensure schools do not have to bear the burden themselves. This move comes in response to potential cancelation of the frozen rates by Taiwan Power Company to reduce losses, with Minister Yeh stressing that the Ministry will support schools as required by law. The cancelation would result in a minimum 10% increase in electricity costs for schools, amounting to an estimated NT$2 billion annually starting from 2025.
