Egg Demand Declines Leading to Overproduction, Council of Agriculture to Eliminate 1.8 Million Hens in July

Reported about 1 year ago

Council of Agriculture Chairman Chen Chun-Chi announced on June 27 that in July, they plan to eliminate 1.8 million aging laying hens to optimize the egg supply-demand market. With a decrease in egg demand during summer and recent overproduction, efforts are being made to maintain market prices by culling less productive hens. The oversupply of eggs has led to lowered prices, with wholesale prices hitting a three-year low. A plan to eliminate 1.8 million low-yield hens will kick off in July, with farmers receiving subsidies for each hen culled.
