Egg Oversupply Leads to Price Cuts at Retailers

Reported 7 months ago

Agriculture Minister Chen Chun-chi admitted during a parliamentary session in Taiwan on June 13, 2024, that egg consumption has been continuously low, resulting in an oversupply situation. With daily egg production exceeding demand, wholesale prices have dropped to a near two-year low, prompting retailers like supermarkets to lower prices. The government is working on balancing egg production and distribution, aiming to stimulate consumption and regulate production levels by phasing out older hens. Various efforts, like the introduction of premium-grade fresh eggs and the construction of new egg processing facilities, are being made to enhance Taiwan's egg market.
